Carol Ann (Lane) McAvoy, was born June 17, 1945, in Saratoga Springs, New York of the late William H. Lane and Lillian (Richmond) Lane, Sr. Carol was one of five siblings.
She was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, class of 1962, and a graduate of Oneonta State Teacher’s College class of 1966. Carol went on to obtain her master’s degree in education from The State University of New York in Albany. She was the first and only sibling to earn a college degree.
On August 4th, 1968, Carol was married in St. Clement’s Catholic Church to Saratoga Springs native, Lt, Kevin James McAvoy, US Army. In addition to taking on the duties of a military wife and being a great asset to her husband’s military career, she obtained her teaching certification in many of the location’s where they were stationed.
Carol came home to Saratoga Springs, while Kevin served in Vietnam. They enjoyed two tours of Germany, in addition to stops in Texas, Florida, Connecticut, Alabama, Virginia and Georgia.
Although she and her husband never had children of their own, she touched the lives of many students wherever they lived. She made friends wherever she went, among their neighbor’s and their communities. Other then her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David K. Lane and William H. Lane; sisters, Sandra Hall (Lane) Bailey and Mary Beth (Lane) Gorham and nephew, Jeffrey Lowe.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Col. Kevin J. McAvoy, US Army, Retired and his family; nephews on her parent’s side, Scott D. Bailey, Jonathan P. Bailey, Col. Will Lane, USAF Retired, Michael Lane, Jebediah Gorham, Joshua Gorham, and several great nieces and nephews.
Aunt Carol had a special talent for making others feel special. Her quite strength, indominable sense of positivity, her smile her laugh, her joy in experiencing the world around her and sharing that joy with those around her.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
