Ernestine A. McBroom

Born into a world that would forever be better because of her, Ernestine Augusta McBroom (Hosemann) was born on January 8, 1934, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She later made her home in Gainesville, Georgia where she spent many years building the life that so many of us cherished. A caregiver by both nature and profession, Ernestine devoted her entire career to nursing. To know her was to feel cared for. She was a woman whose legacy was built by her warmth, humility, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. 

Ernestine’s greatest joy was her family. She raised 7 children with a selfless love that became the foundation of our large, close-knit family. Her love extended effortlessly to her 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren… a legacy that is continuously growing. 

She knew both love and loss. Ernestine was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph Francis and Cecelia Hosemann; her six older brothers and sisters: Dorothy Fields, Mary Theresia Tucker, and Florence Bourn, Helen Walker, Joseph Francis Hosemann, Jr. and Edward (Johnny) Hosemann; her late former husband, Hubert Ray McBroom; and her son, Thomas E. McBroom.

She is survived by six of her children and their spouses: Suzanne and Mike Strickland, Kathie and Robert Cummings, Michelle and Phil Craven, John A. and Donna McBroom, Mickey and April McBroom, Jennifer and Mike Horton, and Tracy McBroom; her 22 grandchildren and their respective spouses: Lori McBroom, Thomas E. (Megan) Jr. McBroom, Dallas (Maddie) McBroom, Landry (Dalton) Grose, Grant McBroom, Troy McBroom, Morgan (Josh) Beatty, Samantha (Josh) Whitt, John Michael (Lauren) Cummings, Thomas (Bethany) Cummings, Adam (Elizabeth) Cummings, Cecelia (Pradeep) Raja, Jacob Tatro, Brent (BriAnn) West, Tyler McBroom, Emily McBroom, Garrett (Haley) McBroom, Austin McBroom, Hunter McBroom, Baxleigh Brooke McBroom, Trey Horton, and Reagan (Jacob) Turk; her 19 great-grandchildren: Corbin Cochran, Shelby Beatty, Ella Rose McKenna, Ethan Whitt, Charlie Cummings, Chase Cummings, Calvin Cummings, Caleb Cummings, Murphy Cummings, Sully Cummings, Vivi Cummings, Grace Cummings, Kix Cummings, Parker West, Graham West, Addi McBroom, Cayden McBroom, Harper Grose, and Gracelyn Grose; and many cherished nieces and nephews who loved her deeply. 

Though she has left this world, she has not left us. We will carry her love forward. In every lifetime, Ernestine, we love you.

In place of a traditional service, her family plans to hold a celebration of life this spring. Details will be shared by her children. To honor her memory, please consider performing a random act of kindness in her name.
