Evelyn “Evie” Marie Cox, 66, beloved wife, Mother, and Nana, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.
Evie was born on Tuesday, April 5,1955 in Manhattan, Kansas, daughter of the late Edward “Mac” and Peggy McDougald. Left to cherish Evie’s memory is her loving husband of 22 years, Walton Byron Cox and her beloved, constant canine companions, Sampson and Delilah. She is also survived by her children Michelle (Rodney) Gilmore of South Carolina, Mandy (Roy) Chambliss, Mary (Keith) Egan and Breeann (Jason) Taylor all of Georgia. Evie is survived by her grandchildren: McKenzie, Delaney and Avery Morton, Mason and Moriah Lewis, Nathan and Hailee Arbogast, Hunter, Logan, and Colton Egan and Lizzie Taylor. She is also survived by her siblings; Helen (Jenny) Lathrop, Buddy McDougald, Toni (Harry) Ritchie, Stephanie (JR) Rytky, Lewis (Tracy) McDougald and Robert McDougald as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evie grew up in Wilmington, NC and was a graduate of New Hanover High School in 1973. She was employed by DuPont and Holiday Inn Express before relocating to Charlotte, NC in 1989. After many successful and happy years in Charlotte she moved to Savannah where she met the love of her life, Byron. Evie enjoyed her years in Savannah and surrounding area working at Freightliner and Yancey. Byron’s job relocated them to Mt. Airy, GA in July 2014. Evie loved living in the mountains the last 7 years of her life (although she never did get to see a live Bear like she’d hoped). Evie believed that you should love your family and friends fiercely. She derived the most joy in being a Nana to her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed but has left a lifetime of loving memories behind. Evie believed in God and love and although she was not outspoken about her own relationship with God, she often shared prayers and sayings to influence others to take a path that would lead us all to heaven.
