Lynneve Ransom Ramsey – Obituary
November 14, 1939 - May 4, 2024
Lynneve will be remembered for her style (colorful); her opinions (also colorful); her marriage
(64 short years to her high school sweetheart); her hard head (never backed down, including to
cancer); her family pride (over-the-top); her oatmeal (the butter would make Paula Dean blush);
her namesake lake (some folks get confused and call it ‘Lanier’, but the proper name is ‘Lake
Lynneve’); her legacy (lifelong friendships, two kids, four grandbabies, three great grandbabies
so far).
She was born and raised in Winnsboro, South Carolina by her parents Abbie Cannady Ransom
and Leroy Ransom. During childhood, her younger brother accidentally created her lifelong
nickname. He was doing his best to pronounce “sister” … and “tutta” came out instead. It stuck,
with friends and family fondly calling her “Tut.” The two siblings remained close – Lynneve
kept Lionel’s number on speed dial, listed as “Bubba.” Smart and resourceful, they recall being
able to stay at home together at a very young age while their parents worked.
Lynneve married her high school sweetheart, Bill Ramsey. The pair’s energy was infectious.
They moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where they lived and worked until they moved to
Sandy Springs, Georgia in 1968. Their last move was to Gainesville, Georgia in 1992 where they
lived in their dream home on Lake Lanier for 32 years which was built by a dear family friend.
They shared a house in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with her brother and sister-in-law where
they found immense pleasure golfing, sailing and shagging to beach music. She worked
alongside Bill as they founded and operated Ramsey Store Fixtures for over 40 years. They
enjoyed traveling throughout the US, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Ireland and Greece.
Her greatest passion was loudly and proudly cheering for her children and grandchildren at
countless school and athletic events. It was an interest she carried forward from her high school
days as a firecracker cheerleader for the mighty Winnsboro Wildcats.
Some of her favorite family moments included: Taking the in-home recruiting visit with
Alabama head football coach Bear Bryant, before her son Skip committed to play quarterback
for the Crimson Tide, and then watching him launch two 50+ yard touchdown passes for the
South Carolina Gamecocks in one game. Watching her son Craig serve as team captain during
the 1980 College World Series while playing baseball at Florida State under first-year head
coach Mike Martin. Watching grandson Craig Jr. secure a ‘golden match’ victory without
dropping a point in high school tennis before heading to Vanderbilt. Listening to Major League
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig call out the name of grandson James as a first-round draft
selection by the St. Louis Cardinals. Celebrating the honor roll graduation and academic
scholarship to Georgia Tech of grandson Patrick. Watching granddaughter Barrett brutally break
her kneecap playing soccer, only to return two years later and win the state championship before
going to Auburn and being honored as a Miss Homecoming candidate. Lynneve swelled with
pride when talking about her ‘kids, grandbabies and great grandbabies.’
Lynneve loved watching the sun rise and set on the lake. She enjoyed reading her daily
devotional while sipping on a cup of coffee, rocking on her back porch swing.
Some of the phrases that her family and friends recalled about her include: a piece-of-work, tell-
it-like-it-is (whether you wanted to hear it or not), strong-willed, never complaining of health
issues, always smiling and laughing, funny and graceful.
For church, she attended Stephen Green Baptist Church in Winnsboro. When she moved to
Atlanta, she joined the North Springs United Methodist Church and later attended the First
Methodist Church of Gainesville.
On Saturday, May 4, 2024, our loving God allowed Lynneve Ramsey to leave this world quietly
and peacefully. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Ramsey. She is survived by
her brother, two sons, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren:
· Brother Roy Lionel Ransom (Libby - deceased)
· Son William “Skip” Glenn Ramsey, Jr
· Son Lionel Craig Ramsey (Mary) and their children Craig Jr. (Alex, daughter Willamine),
James (Grace, son Brogan, daughter Reese), Patrick and Barrett.
Lynneve’s family is so thankful for an outpouring of love, fond memories, funny stories and
prayers. The family is having a private celebration of life gathering in mid-June. In lieu of
flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Donate Life America, a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization focused on saving and healing lives through transplantation.
