Mark Harold Smith, age 75, of Buford, GA passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in 1950 in Kansas, to the late Harold and Doris Smith. Mark was a proud United States Marine veteran who served from 1969- 1983. He served 2 tours in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Mark was exposed to many hazardous materials including agent orange, which contributed to his passing. He served as military police in the Marines and went to Marine Security Guard School. He was stationed at the Saigon Embassy and the Buenos Aires Embassy in Argentina. After the military, Mark spent the rest of his career working in computer programming until his retirement.
Mark was an avid golfer, who played in several Pro-Am tournaments. His highlight from golfing was the time he played a round of golf with Tom Watson. He was very active in several charities including, Toys for Tots and Birdies for the Brave at TPC Sugarloaf. Mark was a member of the VFW, Local Marine Corps. League, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mark enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and attending their marching band competitions and games. He also enjoyed spending time with his son, Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Emma Smith; son, Thomas (Maggie) Smith; grandchildren, Malcolm, and Inara Smith; brother; Gerard (Marsha) Smith; nephews, Brittan Smith, Gabriel Smith, and Eduardo and Sebastian Lopez Nogueira; and niece, Dolores Lopez Arreseigor; along with many other loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in December in Claflin, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Clara Barton Hospital Foundation in Hoisington, KS.
