January 28, 1923 ~ March 22, 2020 (age 97)

Obituary

Due to health concerns in the community at this time, and out of respect for the family and friends, the family will be having a private burial, with a public service announced at a later time.

Mary “Julia” Neese, 97, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2020. Julia was predeceased by
her parents, Ed and Pearl Reagin, husbands, Gordon L.Willbanks and Howard D.Neese, and seven of her
eight siblings. She is survived by one sister, Carolyn Sue Quick, Conyers, her loving children and their
spouses, Judy and William Tyson, Gainesville, Terry and Carol Willbanks, Gainesville, adored
grandchildren Angie Schmidt, Donny Willbanks. Michael Tyson and Lisa Dunham. Precious great
grandchildren, Matthew Willbanks, Will Dunham, Jake Willbanks, Owen Schmidt, Gavin Schmidt,
Tommy Willbanks, Rose and Miller Tyson as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Julia, affectionally known to most as “Granny,” worked at Avon Cosmetics for more than 30
years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling. fishing, gardening and
going to and having yard sales. She was a wonderful cook and her family still makes and enjoys her
outstanding brunswick stew.
Julia and her husband, Howard moved to Dawsonville in 1984 where they became devoted
members of Liberty Baptist Church. Julia had the distinction of being the oldest member. There are
many folks at Liberty, young and old, who remember her as “the Candyman's wife”. Evidently they
started a traditon since there is another “Candyman” who brings candy every Sunday for the children to
share. Pastor Dennis Bottoms and wife, Sandra, visited Granny faithfully and one of her last wishes was
to go to church just one more time.
The family would like to thank everyone who has been so thoughtful with time and prayers. A special
thanks to the staff at Amber Glen Personal Care Home where she received such loving care. If you wish
to personally remember Granny, a love gift may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Youth Program, 280
Liberty Church Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534.
