Melvin McCant Obituary

Melvin “Mac” McCant, age 67 of Pensacola, Florida passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Athens, Ga. He was born February 19, 1958, to the late Sam and Sarah Lee McCants.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he traveled to Hawaii, Germany, Korea, Oklahoma, Washington State and Kansas. He retired after 20 years and moved to Decatur, Ga for a few years before he decided to live life and travel.

Melvin had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge about camping and motorcycles. Melvin loved driving his Harley and never turned down a good road trip. In his earlier years, he would travel to different parts of Florida, and Texas to see family members. He also had a passion for listening to music and fishing.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Sophia (Jerome) Hollis of Gainesville, Ga, adopted daughter Kayla Cabrera and granddaughter, Kali Allen of Smyrna, Ga; five sisters; Shelia Glenn, Sarah Hurts, Mary Alexander, Perasina (Alvin) Byrd and Janice (Saul) Savage; one brother, Authur McCants and a host of nieces and nephews.

Melvin is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Lee Kato; sister, Mildred Miller; brothers, Willie McCants, Fred (Linda) McCants, In-law Saul (Janice) Savage; and grandson, Jerome Hollis Jr.

Let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence. Melvin is now at peace but will live on forever in our hearts. We love him very much. Rest in peace.
