Shirley Ruth Griffin

Shirley Griffin, age 95 of Monroe, North Carolina, went into the loving arms of Jesus on May 25th, 2026, at her home on Lanier Drive in Cumming, Georgia.

She was born on February 11, 1931, on Hayes Road in Monroe, North Carolina.  She graduated from Wingate University where she met her husband, Bryce Griffin.

She was the daughter of the late Herman Nelson and Eula Yandle Hayes.  Shirley was proceeded in death by her brother, Tom Hayes, and her sister Josie Hayes Helms. She is survived by her son, Hayes Griffin (Rebecca), granddaughter, Rielyn, grandson, Bryce, niece, Susan Stokes (Byron), great nieces, Shara Duke (David), Samantha Reynolds (Bruce), and their children Jacob, Madelyn, Tristan, Ellie Jo and Josie Rae. 

Shirley was a business owner at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart along with her husband for many years, then went to work at Publix, then Costco.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a dog lover and had many precious dogs that she adored. She enjoyed beach vacations in Florida with her husband and son.  She also enjoyed visiting her family in North Carolina for the Holidays.

A graveside service to celebrate Shirley’s life will begin at 1 PM in the church cemetery at Shiloh Baptist Church 2301 N. Rocky River Rd, Monroe, NC 28110.  Hillside Chapel funeral home of Gainesville, GA is honored to serve Shirley’s family.
