Swain Lawson, Jr

Swain “Moose” Lawson, Jr., age 64, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Swain was born on January 19th, 1959 in Stephens County, Georgia, to Swain Lawson, Sr. and the late Sarah Louise Ramey Lawson. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Bertha May Lawson, Marvin James Ramey, Sr. and Ruth Waldron Griffin, his uncles Lloyd Lawson, Clarence, Clyde, David, Robert, and Marvin, Jr., and aunts Betty Canipe and Evelyn Griffin, and his loyal pup Fifty.

“Moose” was a retired truck driver who prided himself on knowing the best way to get anywhere. He was an accomplished bowler and lifelong collector who enjoyed thrifting, music, photography, puzzles, racing, and traveling. He loved family vacations, fishing trips, and was an avid Harley rider who spent much time on two wheels. He spent the majority of his time helping anyone who needed it, no questions asked. 

Of all his accomplishments and pastimes, there was nothing he enjoyed more than being “Pops” to his three beautiful grandchildren.

Survivors include his father, Swain Lawson, Sr., and aunt Jeanie Walker; his loving wife of 28 years, Lisa Lawson, of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Courtney Sullivan, of Buford; grandchildren Dainton Byrd, Gunderson Michael-Swain Sullivan, Else May Forthun Sullivan; brothers and their spouses John Phillip Lawson and Say, of Gainesville, Kenneth Wayne Lawson and Cindy, of Dawsonville; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his two hounds, Pluto and Venus.

Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday March 28, 2023, at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be received 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. prior to the service.
