Winston (Win) Vernon Shuttleworth
11-1-1929-12-4-21
Winston Vernon Shuttlewoth,92, passed away on 12-4-21 after a brief illness at Northeast Medical Center in Gainesville Ga. Winston was born to Winifred Mergott and Ira Shuttleworth on November 1,1929 in Newark NJ. Winston is survived by his wife Laurel Shuttleworth; son and daughter in law Michael Shuttleworth and Victoria Jackson; daughter and son in law Joanne and Larry Campione; daughter and son in law Susanne and Ron Perri; grandchildren Mona Maaty and Christopher Campione and great grandchild Jeremy Montes; and sister Margaret Bell.
Winston graduated from Pearl River High School, Pearl River New York in 1947 and from Syracuse University in Syracuse New York in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and completed an overseas tour in Libya working with radar technology. With his experience in the Air Force, he spent over 30 years working in the defense industry as an engineer.
After retirement in 1993, he lived in Maine and North Carolina. He enjoyed many activities such as competitive bridge, chess, reading history books and listening to classical music. He loved the outdoors and took great pleasure in ocean sailing with his son Mike and lake activities with his daughters. An avid professional sports fan, he also enjoyed watching his grandson play sports at all levels.
Winston will be remembered for his compassion, thoughtfulness, and wonderful sense of humor. We will always be reminded of the value of a strong work ethic, and we will not forget the stories of the incredibly hard work on his grandfather’s farm.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen
