James Michael Anderson

December 21, 1947 ~ November 14, 2019 (age 71)

On the morning of Thursday, November 14, James Michael Anderson of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away at the age of 71. Mike was a loving husband, father of two, and grandfather of four.

Mike was born in Paris, Arkansas, to Homer and Adele Anderson. He graduated from Paris High School in 1965 and then went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He then served in the United States Army from 1970 -1972. He settled in the Bay Area where he met and married Paula in 1978 and lived in San Jose, California. They moved to Toccoa, Georgia, in 1991. They had two sons Jason and Matthew.

Mike was a dedicated family man, regularly extending his love and support to his children’s friends as well (often serving as a second dad). He was an avid reader, fisherman, and musician, and his love of the game of baseball was shared with his children as well as the many kids he coached over the years. His irreverent humor was something that people noticed upon first meeting him, and it is a trait that he shared with his sons.

Mike is survived by his wife, Paula; his two sons, Jason and Matthew; his two daughters-in-law, Heather and Molly; his four grandchildren, Normandy, Jackson, Elizabeth, and Henry; his brother, Van; his brother, Richard, and his wife, Carol; his sister, Gwen; his sister-in-law, Gloria, and her husband, Fred; his brother-in-law, Willie, and his wife, Kathy; his brother-in-law, John, and his wife, Sonja; his brother-in-law, David, and his wife, Linda; his sister-in-law, Sally; his sister-in-law, Sherry; his brother-in-law, Don; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Mike chose cremation upon his passing, which was performed by Hillside Chapel Funeral Home of Gainesville, Georgia. The family asks that donations are made in his name to either the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
